Green Tara: Embodiment of Compassion and Action

Green Tara, known as “Shyama Tara” in Sanskrit, is one of the most revered deities in Tibetan Buddhism, embodying enlightened compassion and swift action. As a central figure among the 21 manifestations of Tara, she is celebrated as a “mother of liberation” who alleviates suffering and fear. Her green color symbolizes vitality, transformation, and the union of wisdom and compassionate activity.

Depicted in a relaxed seated posture with one leg extended, Green Tara is poised to rise instantly to aid devotees. She holds a blue utpala flower, representing purity and the blossoming of wisdom amid life’s challenges. According to legend, she arose from a tear of Avalokiteshvara (the Bodhisattva of Compassion), vowing to guide beings toward enlightenment. Her mantra, *Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha*, invokes her blessings to overcome obstacles, fears, and physical or emotional afflictions.

In Buddhist practice, Green Tara is particularly associated with protection, courage, and nurturing care. She is seen as a divine advocate for those in distress, offering both spiritual and worldly support.
