Pi Xiu (貔貅): The Auspicious Wealth Guardian

Pi Xiu, a mythical Chinese hybrid creature, is revered in Feng Shui as a powerful symbol of wealth accumulation and protection. With the head of a dragon, body of a lion, and often wings, it embodies celestial authority and ferocity. Legend states Pi Xiu, one of the nine sons of the Dragon King, devours treasures but lacks an anus, symbolizing its ability to “retain wealth” and block financial loss.

Historically, PiXiu was linked to military prowess, believed to ward off evil and attract victory. Over time, it became a popular emblem for business prosperity. Feng Shui practitioners recommend placing PiXiu statues or jewelry (facing outward) at home or workplaces to deflect misfortune and invite fortune. Its image is commonly crafted in jade, gold, or bronze, reflecting both cultural and spiritual significance.

Associated with the Chinese zodiac and Taoist traditions, Pi Xiu is also thought to balance negative energies (Sha Qi). Devotees ritually “activate” its powers through blessings. Today, it remains a beloved icon, merging ancient mythology with modern aspirations for abundance and security.
